Manny Pacquiao vs Brandon Rios Live Online HBO PPV in Macau
The World Organization are reportedly in the process of creating a special title belt for Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios to fight over in their November 23rd fight in Macao, China. The two fighters are technically fighting for the WBO International welterweight title in this fight.
But given that this isn’t considered a major title, it looks like the WBO has decided to create a special title belt for the occasion.
This isn’t all that surprising, as the last time Pacquiao fought last December against Juan Manuel Marquez, the WBO created a WBO Fighter of the Decade title. Pacquiao was stopped in the 6th round, and that was his 2nd straight defeat.
It’s really hard to justify that Pacquiao deserves to be fighting for any title at this point, even an obscure one like the WBO International title.
Anytime you lose consecutive fights, it makes it kind of a joke to have a fighter still fighting for a belt.
You don’t see that in other sports, but with the sanctioning bodies wanting to get the hefty sanctioning fees that go along with these specially created belts, it’s not surprising to see all the odd belts that are being created left and right by the different sanctioning bodies.
I suppose Pacquiao and Rios can turn the WBO down with the new belt by saying they won’t pay the sanctioning feels, but if they do this it could possibly hurt their ranking.
The funny part about this fight is that both guys are coming off losses. Pacquiao has lost his last two fights to Tim Bradley and Marquez whereas Rios is coming off of a defeat to Mike Alvarado last March.
I wonder which belt Pacquiao will be fighting for next if he gets beaten by Rios on November 23rd. The thing with the Pacquiao-Rios fight is that it’s going to make a ton of money with the fight being sold on pay per view in both China and the United States. This could be Pacquiao’s career high payday for this fight despite the fact that he’s lost his last two fights.
